Local-first. Zero tracking.

Save and Export your
AI Conversations.

My chats were fragmented across a dozen tabs—some in Claude, some in ChatGPT, others in Gemini. I was frustrated by how hard it was to just own my data.

So I built Later: a local-first bridge to sync my AI history directly to my personal knowledge base.

Later Browser Extension UI - Saving AI Chats to Markdown

The easiest way to Save AI Chats to Markdown.

I use AI for everything—from debugging complex code to brainstorming business strategy. But the better the AI got, the more my knowledge felt "locked" in their proprietary clouds.

  • I was frustrated by the lack of a simple "Export as Markdown" button.
  • I was tired of copy-pasting code blocks from Claude back into my notes.
  • I wanted a bridge, not another proprietary cloud account to manage.

My personal extraction workflow for the AI era.

Later is the tool I wish existed a year ago. It's a lightweight drawer that lives in my sidebar, ready to extract and sync the moment a conversation gets interesting.

One-Click Native Extraction

I don't have to worry about platform silos. Whether I'm in ChatGPT, Gemini, or DeepSeek, I can extract a clean Markdown version of the conversation in one click. No UI bloat, just the raw thoughts.

Straight to my Obsidian Vault

As a fan of local-first tools, I needed my chats to live in my folder. I integrated Later with the Obsidian Local REST API so I can sync every extraction directly to my vault. It's my data, in my folder, on my drive.

AI Summarization on Tap

Sometimes I have massive technical threads that I don't want to re-read from scratch. I used the OpenRouter integration to build a summarizer that prepends a structured summary to my Markdown. It saves me hours of re-indexing my own memory.

Out-of-the-way UI

I'm a frequent chatter, so I didn't want a UI that blocked my input box. I built a smart "floating drawer" that intelligently moves out of the way of the keyboard and repositions itself based on where it's dragged.

How do I save and download all my conversations?

If you've found yourself searching for how to export ChatGPT conversation, or wondering exactly how do I export my ChatGPT history and data without dealing with bulky JSON files—Later is your bridge.

Whether you are trying to figure out how to save a ChatGPT chat, looking for the best way to export Claude conversations as Markdown, or wanting to download your Gemini history for safekeeping—Later was built to solve exactly this problem.

Stop taking messy screenshots or copy-pasting code blocks one by one. With Later, you can extract the exact structure of your conversation natively and sync it to Obsidian, Notion, or your local drive in seconds.

Feedback & Community

Developer Note: Later is a labor of love built to solve my own problems.

  • Report an Issue / Request a Feature: Your feedback helps me make Later better for everyone.
  • [WIP] Notion Integration: I'm currently working on a direct bridge for my Notion databases.
  • [Planned] Private Cloud Sync: I'm building a way to backup conversations to my own private cloud storage.
  • My Privacy Policy: I don't want your data. Later doesn't have a backend to store your chats. Everything stays in your browser's local storage and your local vault.

Own your thoughts.

Save them for... Later.
